How to do Risk Assessments (Norwegian version)

The target group is employees working in land-based industry, the offshore industry and public administration; project managers, line managers and project workers.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

In a risk assessment,  potential events and consequences are considered. In this course, we focus on unwanted events such as failures and accidents. This could be, for example, a gas leak or afire at an oil platform, that equipment stops working during an operation in a hospital, or that an accident occurs during the execution of a work task. The risk analysis process consists of three phases:

1) Planning

2) Risk assessment

3) Risk management

This course shows how these phases can be planned and implemented in practice. There are many guidelines and standards on how a risk assessmentcan be carried out, and many are adapted to particular industries and professional areas. This course presents a general approach that can be used in most industries.

 

 

COURSE CONTENT

•Introduction:What is risk? What is the purpose of a risk assessments?

•Risk assessment and risk management:Description of the steps in a risk assessment, what is important to look out for in the various steps, and how the risk assessment can be applied in risk management.

•Risk analysis methods:There are numerous risk assessment methods that are suitable for looking at different issues. An introduction is given to some of these; Hazid/ course risk analysis, SJA, HAZOP, FMEA and QRA. It’s crucial to choose a method that is well adapted to the problem you are looking at.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BENEFIT ME, AND MY COMPANY? 

After completing the course, participants should be able to understand what a risk assessment is and have knowledge of the relevant steps. Participants will also have basic knowledge of:

•Different risk analysis methods.

•Choice of risk analysis methods within the three main categories; simplified risk assessment, standard risk assessment and model-based risk assessment. 

•Typical pitfalls for planning and carrying out risk assessments.

•Understanding how risk assessments can contribute to decision support.
